Officials of the Australian Federal Police have arrived in Maldives to assist in the investigation of this bombing (Maldives Bomb Blast) and British investigators are also going to arrive here.
Investigation continues after the bomb attack on Mohammad Nasheed
Key Suspect Of Bomb Attack Arrested in Maldives: Maldives police said on Sunday that they had arrested the main suspect, who is said to be responsible for the bomb attack in which former President of the country Mohammad Nasheed was injured. A day before this attack, the hands of Islamic Extremists were told. The police have now detained three of the four suspects. On Thursday, Nasheed walked out of the house with his bodyguard towards his car, when the motorcycle parked there suddenly exploded. In which he was seriously injured.
He is currently undergoing treatment in the hospital and has undergone several surgeries till now. Police has not shared any information related to the third and main suspect. But it has been confirmed in a text message that it is the same person whose pictures were released on Saturday (Bomb Attack on Mohamed Nasheed). The police had asked people to help identify him during that time. One more suspect is yet to be arrested. Officials allege that Islamic extremists are behind this attack as Nasheed has been an outspoken critic of Islamic chaplainism.
Bodyguards were also injured
Prosecutor General Hussain Shamim said on Saturday that investigators still do not know which group is responsible behind the bombings. Nasheed’s two bodyguards and two passersby standing there were also injured in the bomb blast. One of whom is a British citizen (Mohamed Nasheed Injured). The hospital says that the 53-year-old Nasheed has already improved his health, underwent surgery on his head, chest, lower chest and legs. He will not need oxygen support for much longer, but he will remain in the ICU.
Was made president in 2008
Currently Nasheed is the Speaker of the Parliament. He is a target of Islamic fundamentalists due to his liberalism towards the West and his liberal policies. Talking about Nasheed, he was the first democratically elected President in the year 2008. Mamun Abdul Gayoom’s 30-year-old rule came to an end after he came to power.
