The SpaceX Crew Dragon, a capsule of Elon Musk’s company SpaceX, arrived at the International Space Station on Saturday. The US space agency NASA has released a picture of this dragon named Dragon reaching the ISS. In this picture the door of the dragon capsule can be seen opening. Crew members included in the capsule joined the Expedition 65 crew after joining the Harmony module’s forward-facing international docking adapter.
The SpaceX crew Dragon flew for the ISS a day earlier from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Dragon capsule reached the ISS in less than a day. The astronauts included in this capsule are Commander Shane Krimboh, Pilot Megan McArthur, Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency astronaut Akihiko Hoshhide and European Space Agency’s Thomas Peskett. When these astronauts reached the ISS, the number of astronauts there increased to 11, which is the highest in almost a decade.
Heads of space agencies congratulated everyone
All astronauts representing the US, Russia, Japan and France were seen in a frame of camera during a call made by leaders of space agencies to send a congratulatory message. Japanese Space Agency chief Hiroshi Yamakawa said while talking to the vehicle control center located in his country, “At a difficult time in the world, I believe you have given us courage and hope.” He was referring to the COVID-19 epidemic.
SpaceX sends crew for the third time in less than a year
The newly-refurbished SpaceX capsule (spacecraft) arrived at the International Space Center (ISS) on Saturday with four astronauts. This is the third space trip undertaken by Elon Musk’s company in less than a year. The capsule, named Dragon, was automatically connected to the ISS, orbiting 420 km above the Indian Ocean, a day after NASA’s Kennedy Space Center departure.
Astronauts will be on ISS for six months
Acting Administrator Steve Zurkijike of the US space agency NASA said, it is wonderful to see all 11 of you in the space center. He pointed out that this would now be a practice and SpaceX would regularly take astronauts. With the help of this capsule, the four astronauts who arrived at ISS represent America, France and Japan and will remain there for the next six months while the four internal astronauts already returning to Earth with their Dragon capsule.
The first used vehicle was used for the first time
NASA deliberately sent new passengers before returning astronauts so that the old astronauts could give them all the information. However, SpaceX has a third flight with astronauts for NASA. This is the first time that a previously used vehicle has been reused and is considered essential by Musk for his plan to travel man to the moon and Mars.
