Australia Cancels Belt and Road Deals With China: At this time, China has a dispute with many countries of the world on different issues. China’s tensions with India, the United States and the Philippines had not diminished even slightly, now that Australia has given it a setback (Australia Cancels belt and road deals with China). Australia on Wednesday canceled four bilateral agreements with China, Iran and Syria under the new law. Under this new law, the federal government has the power to ignore international agreements made at the lower administrative level, which are found against the nation.
The country’s Foreign Minister Maris Payne said in a statement that among the deals that have been canceled, there are two ‘Belt and Road’ infrastructure building deals in the state of Victoria (Australia China Diplomacy). Which were signed with China in 2018 and 2019. There was a legislative response to these deals. The Victoria Education Department agreement was signed in 1999 with Syria and in 2004 with Iran, which has been rescinded.
Told against foreign relations
Payne said in a statement, “I think these four systems are not in sync with Australia’s foreign policy or are hostile to our foreign relations.” China had earlier warned against disrupting ‘successful practical cooperation’ with Victoria (Australia China Diplomacy). Australia passed a national security law in 2018 that prohibits covert foreign interference in domestic policies. Beijing has termed these laws as prejudicial to China and poisonous in Sino-Australian relations.
Sri Lanka also asked the ship to leave
Shortly before this, news has come that a Chinese ship has been asked by Sri Lanka to go through the port of Hambantota. Because radioactive material has been seen on this ship. According to Sri Lankan law, such a substance is undoubtedly transported from one country to another, but permission should have been obtained before bringing it into Sri Lankan territory, whereas it was not done (Australia China Relationship). After which the officials discussed with the Ministry of Defense and asked the Chinese ship to leave the port.
