Whenever war is mentioned, in front of us ammunition, blood-soaked soldiers and a dreaded scene are seen. On hearing the name of war, two world wars also begin to appear. The deadline of these wars drags on for days, months and years. Although it will sound a bit strange to hear, but if we talk about the longest war in the world, then it was fought for 335 years. The thing to note here is that in this war, not a single shot was fired from both sides nor did anyone’s blood flow. This war ended today, on 17 April 1986.
Actually, this war was fought between 1651 to 1986 between the Netherlands and Isles of Scilly. The Dutch-Scilly war technically lasted 335 years until the peace treaty was signed on 17 April 1986. The strangest thing people feel about the war between Sicily and the Netherlands on the west coast of Cornwall is that this war was not bloody. This war started on 30 March 1651. The primary reason behind this was the English Civil War.
What caused this war to begin?
The beginning of this 335 year long war was something like this. At the beginning of the English Civil War, the Dutch people favored the British Parliamentarians, while they were considered supporters of the Royalists. The reason behind this was the Dutch people being historical allies of the royal people. Due to this deception of the Dutch people, the royal people angrily started hitting Red on the sea lanes in the English Channel. However, things were not going well with the royal people, as they were chased by the army.
12 Dutch warships sent to the Silili Islands
The army controlled by the MPs pushed the royalists back and sent them to their last bastion in Cornwall, while the navy of the royalists was on the Sicily Islands. The Dutch people, taking advantage of the opportunity, sought to recover the amount of red from the royal people. For this, 12 war ships were sent to the Sicily Islands. No agreement could be reached here, only a few soldiers were handed over. At the same time, seeing this, Dutch Admiral Merton Tromp waged a war against the Silili Islands on 30 March 1651. But there would have been a single bullet that the MPs had come and pacified the matter.
This is how the war ended
Three months later, the soldiers of Commander Oliver Cormwell of the army of MPs forced the royal people to surrender. In this way, the Cilili Islands once again came under the control of the British MPs. In this way, the Dutch army returned to its homeland when the situation was calm, but a big mistake was made here. Actually, the war was waged, but there was no peace agreement to end it. This forgotten dispute continued till April 1986. Then the Ambassador of the Netherlands arrived on the Silili Islands on 17 April 1986 and officially ended this 335-year-long war through a peace settlement.
