Flaws have been found in WhatsApp, with the help of which cyber criminals can suspend the account using your phone number. The flaw, which has now been found by security researchers, is likely to be present in the instant messaging app for some time. This is a risk for a large number of WhatsApp users as criminals can deactivate WhatsApp on your phone and prevent you from activating it back. Criminals can also take advantage of the flaw in that situation, if you have enabled Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) for WhatsApp account.
Security researchers Luis Márquez Carpintero and Ernesto Canales Pereña have discovered the flaw, with the help of which criminals can suspend their WhatsApp accounts. According to reports, there are two fundamental weaknesses in the instant messaging app.
How can there be an attack?
The first weakness is that criminals can put your phone number on WhatsApp installed on their phone. With this, the criminal will not get access to your account until he gets the registration code of the six numbers on your phone. Due to many unsuccessful attempts using your phone number, the code entry will also be blocked on the criminal’s phone for 12 hours.
However, where the offender will not be able to repeat the process of signing in with your phone number, they can deactivate your phone number from the app by contacting WhatsApp support. They need a new e-mail address and a simple email for which it is written that the phone is lost or lost. In response to that email, WhatsApp will ask for confirmation, which will give the culprit immediately.
