The government of Imran Khan has brought a controversial law for those who criticize Pakistan’s military. Imran’s cabinet ministers have expressed their opposition to this.
Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan
In Pakistan, Imran Khan’s government has brought such a disputed law, about which two of his own cabinet ministers, including the opposition, have come out in protest. In fact, under the controversial law which the Imran government has brought, there has been a provision of severe punishment for criticizing or mocking the Pakistan Army. Criticizing the army under this law can lead to a two-year jail term, a fine of Rs 50,000 or both.
Among those who raised their voice against this controversial law of Imran, his favorite minister Fawad Chaudhary is also included. Science and Technology Minister Fawad Chaudhry and Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari raised their voice against it after the Pakistani parliamentary panel approved the law. The National Assembly Standing Committee on Internal Affairs adopted this law. At the same time, the opposition parties strongly criticized this law and said that fundamental rights would be violated through it.
What did Fawad and Shirin say about the law
Cabinet Minister Fawad Chaudhary was the first such leader to question the law. Chaudhary tweeted this law as ridiculous. He said that it is absolutely ridiculous to criminalize criticism. Respect is earned, it cannot be imposed on people. I strongly feel that the court should repeal such new laws. Shirin Mazari retweeted Chaudhary’s tweet and said, I completely agree.
What is disputed in this law
The purpose of this law is to amend the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). It was introduced for discussion by the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) legalist Amjad Ali Khan. The bill suggests that the armed forces personnel will be punished if they are intentionally insulted by anyone. Significantly, there is always a danger of coup in Pakistan. The neighboring country has been ruled by the army for almost half the time since independence. Many governmenters were ousted from power even before the term was over. The powerful army has been the reason for the ouster of these governments from power.
