Due to the increasing cases of Corona virus, Bangladesh has again declared a lockdown across the country. In the last one month, there has been a spurt in the case of COVID-19 here. According to the Bangladeshi government, a week-long lockdown will come into effect from Monday. Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obedul Qadir said on Saturday that the government is ready to impose a lockdown to stop the new wave of Corona virus.
Kadir, the general secretary of the ruling party Awami League, made the announcement during a regular press conference from his residence on Saturday morning. The lockdown will remain in the country for seven days from April 5. During this time, all offices and courts will remain closed. But industries and mills will continue to do their work on the rotation policy. In response to the question of exempting the industries and mills, the minister said that if we close the mills, the employees will be forced to return to their homes.
First Asian country to lockdown
Bangladesh is the first South Asian country to decide to put a lockdown again, given Corona’s fast catching pace. Last week, the Prime Minister’s Office issued 18 point guidelines. In this, the gathering of any kind of crowd was banned. In the notification issued by the government, the gathering of people was banned in any social, political or religious event. Instructions were also given to the bus drivers to seat the passengers only in half the seats and follow the safety rules.
Record cases surfaced in 24 hours
On Wednesday, COVID cases that surfaced in Bangladesh within 24 hours broke all records. On Wednesday, 5,358 cases of COVID-19 were reported, which is the highest since March last year. Daily death figures have also made a new record here. According to the latest data, by Friday morning 50 people had died within 24 hours. The total number of deaths in the country has reached 9,155. The average weekly death toll has reached 44.86, which is comparable to the data of July 5 last year.
