COVID-19 Testing: The corona test will now be done as easily as the blood sugar test is done now. Scientists have prepared such a stamp-shaped chip, through which Covid-19 testing will be easy and its results will be available on the smartphone in an hour. The microfluidic chip will measure concentrations of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N) protein in blood serum. This blood serum is collected by pricking a needle with a small needle. This system is so easy that you can also get corona test done at the adjacent medical store and can know the results in an hour. There will be no need to take the sample to the laboratory.
This chip has been prepared by researchers from Rice University and it has been published in the research journal ACS Sensors. According to this research, the nanobiids in the chip stick to the SARS-CoV-2N protein and then go into an electrochemical sensor. This sensor can also detect small amounts of biomarkers.

Chip technology is easier than swab test
According to the researchers, the chip technology is much easier than the process currently adopted for corona testing. Currently swab based PCR tests are done. According to Peter Lillehoz, a mechanical engineer at Rice Lab, this device will not require a laboratory for corona testing, but it can also be at a test collection site, health clinic or any drug store. Apart from this, it is also very easy to use and bring this entire system.
Detected corona in 55 minutes
Current biosensing tools were used for research and the way microneedle patches were used to treat malaria in the last year 2020, the same was done for the corona test. Although the tools developed for corona testing are more complex detection systems, researchers believe that accurate and quantitative results can be achieved in less time. The device was tested through donated blood serum from some healthy people with a corona infection. During testing, the microchip detected SARS-KOV-2N protein (50 picogram concentration in milliliters per milliliter) during testing. The blood sample is transported to the chip through a capillary tube. Beads attached to it bind to antibodies and a sample produces current in proportion to the concentration of the biomarker. The potentstat reads this current and sends the signal to the phone app.
