Former grandmother of US President Barack Obama, Sarah Obama has passed away. She was about 99 years old. Obama’s relatives and officials confirmed this news on Monday. However, he has not given any reasons for the death. Sara was a philanthropist who promoted education for girls and orphans. Let me tell you that Obama’s original roots are associated with Kenya.
According to Sara’s daughter Masrat Onyango, she breathed her last at four in the morning at local time while undergoing treatment at the Jaramogi Oginga Odinsa Teaching and Referral Hospital in Kisumu, Western Kenya. Oniango told, he died this morning. We are very sad about this. Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyongyo expressed his condolences to the people of Kogelo village on the death of Sara Obam, saying he will be remembered for his work in promoting the education of orphans.
Obama mentioned grandmother in her book
Sarah was the second wife of former US President Barack Obama’s grandfather. He also helped in the upbringing of Barack’s father, Senior Barack Obama. The Obama family belongs to the Luo ethnic group of Kenya. Former President Obama had a great affection for Sara and in his memoir ‘Dreams from My Father’, he mentioned Sarah as a ‘granny’ or grandmother.
Was involved in the program during Obama’s presidency
In 1998, when Obama went on a trip to Kenya, he mentioned the meeting with Sara. When Obama became US President for the first time in 2009, Sara also attended that ceremony. In 2014, in his speech at the UN General Assembly, he once again spoke about his grandmother. For decades, Sarah Obama has helped orphans. He raised some children at home. The Mama Sarah Obama Foundation helped provide food and education to children who lost their parents.
