After the end of the Second World War, countries around the world were divided into two factions. On one hand, America wanted to impose its capitalist ideology and on the other hand the Soviet Union was engaged in spreading its communist ideology. Many countries became the arena of war between the US and the Soviet Union. There were two such countries, North Vietnam and South Vietnam, which later became known as Vietnam. In the war between these two countries, America showed a lot of power.
58 thousand American soldiers were killed in this war, while about 2 million Vietnam soldiers and common people lost their lives in this war. North Vietnam was supported by the Soviet Union, China and other communist allies. While South Vietnam had the support of the US, South Korea, the Philippines, Australia, Thailand and other anti-communist allies. In the Vietnam War, the US caused a lot of destruction and millions of people were killed. Today is a very special day for this war, because on this day America pulled all its soldiers out of Vietnam and the war ended.
Peace agreement signed in Paris
America started the war in 1954 and fought it for a total of 19 years till 1973. On March 29, 1973, the last American troops were evacuated from Vietnam. Direct US military involvement in the war also ended after the signing of the peace deal. In Paris, two months ago, representatives of the US, North and South Vietnam signed the peace deal. Under this agreement, Americans were to get out of the war in a respectful manner. Due to this war, there was a very deep division in the country. At the same time, many of its soldiers were released after the American soldiers went out of the country.
These terms are included in the agreement
The key provisions of the pact included the implementation of ceasefire throughout Vietnam, withdrawal of US troops, release of prisoners of war, and unification of North and South Vietnam in a peaceful manner. At the same time, the continuation of the South Vietnamese government until the new elections were held and the North Vietnam troops in the southern region did not move forward was also part of the peace agreement. The strategy of taking out the troops had been going on since 1969. President Richard Nixon formulated the Vietnamese policy and unveiled it through a televised address.
War extends to the tenure of three American presidents
America’s last commander came out of Vietnam on 29 March. But a force of 7200 American citizens was stationed by the US Department of Defense in southern Vietnam to deal with the communist government in North Vietnam. Their job was to provide assistance to the Government of South Vietnam. The Vietnam War spans three US presidential terms. It began during the tenure of John F. Kennedy, when he sent military advisers to South Vietnam. At the same time, during the tenure of President Lyndon Johnson, the largest number of American soldiers were killed. During this time people took to the streets against this war in America and they started demonstrating for the withdrawal of the soldiers. The war finally ended during Nixon’s tenure.
