US Defense Minister Lloyd Austin is currently in India. A few days before this, there was a phone conversation between American President Joe Biden and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In this conversation, PM Modi invited him to come to India. While the new US administration has been trying to strengthen relations with India, relations with Pakistan again stop coming on the issue of terrorism.
With the arrival of Austin in India, there is a stir again in Pakistan. This problem is inevitable because no American President has visited Pakistan for the last 15 years. Whereas America’s contact with India continues to grow. Know why the US President has started cutting down on going to Pakistan.
The last President Bush to visit Pakistan
George Bush Jr. visited Pakistan in March 2006. Bush came to India at that time and reached Pakistan one day to return here after sealing the historic nuclear deal. At that time, Pervez Musharraf was the head of Pakistan and he welcomed him with warmth. But after Bush’s visit, Pakistan is waiting for when an American President will visit his country.
Prime Minister Imran Khan is also worried, when will any American President come to his country now. On 27 January 2015, when the then US President Barack Obama ended his second visit to India, NPR Radio of America said, “President Obama has just finished touring India, after which the Pakistanis will be just looking at their visitors’ book.” . There is anger among the people over the fact that Obama has passed through Delhi and Pakistan only twice.
Only five presidents reached Pakistan
So far, there have been only five such US Presidents who have visited Pakistan. At the same time, the rulers of Pakistan have visited America 42 times since 1947. The American President has reached Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore on his tours. This means that after every 14 years, the White House gives Pakistan an opportunity to prepare for the visit of the US President.
The most interesting thing is that whenever an American President visited Pakistan, every time the military ruler would rule there. Dwight Eisenhower was the first American President to visit Pakistan. When Eisenhower of the Republican Party went to Pakistan in 1959, General Ayub Khan was the President of the country at that time. According to experts who keep an eye on the politics of Pakistan, the way the smiling Ayub Khan welcomed the President was giving a new message to the world.
Clinton went to Pakistan after 31 years
Lyndon Johnson was the second US President after Eisenhower to visit Pakistan and visited Pakistan on 23 December 1967. Johnson was welcomed in Karachi. Richard Nixon was the third President after Johnson to visit Pakistan. Nixon was on a tour of India from July 31 to August 1, 1969 and arrived in Pakistan from here. Nixon was received by Yahaya Khan in Lahore from August 1 to August 2.
After Nixon, Bill Clinton visited Pakistan. Clinton visited Pakistan on 25 March 2000 and was welcomed by President Rafiul Tarar and the then Army Chief General Pervez Musharraf. Bill Clinton also visited India first and then reached Pakistan from here. Bill Clinton became the President after 31 years visiting Pakistan.
Expectations tied to Carter’s tour
When Jimmy Carter visited India before Clinton, Pakistan was once again hopeful. But he ignored Pakistan. Carter visited India on January 1, 1978, and returned to the country on January 3. Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr. and Barack Obama have been presidents who have avoided going to Pakistan during their tenure.
When Obama visited India for the first time in 2010, it was his first term. After that, after a second stint, he visited India again in 2015. In 2016, when Obama was nearing the end of his second term, a statement was issued on behalf of the White House about the visit to Pakistan. The White House had said that the President could not visit due to ‘complicated relations’ with Pakistan and he regrets it.
Imran is waiting
During the tenure of 45th President Donald Trump, relations between Pakistan and America deteriorated further. The US stopped the military assistance to Pakistan and every time had to face the issue of terrorism. In the year 2019, when India removed article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan was shocked. That year, Imran Khan and Trump met with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). In this meeting, Imran expressed his pain in Kashmir but he did not get much attention.
At the same time, after Biden took over the White House and recently mentioned the importance of Pakistan in the peace process in Afghanistan, nothing has been said about when the relationship will happen when a President of this country Will arrive in Apparently Imran Khan will also be worried that when an American President will come to his country now.
