QUAD Summit: Many important issues including vaccine, climate change were discussed in the first meeting of the Quad countries. During this time, the topic on which the discussion has caught the attention of the people is the discussion on the issues related to China (QUAD China). In this regard, the US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has informed that the discussion on ‘challenges’ presented by China in the Quad countries meeting between the leaders of US, India, Australia and Japan. And they made it clear that none of them have any ‘confusion’ about Beijing.

Sullivan said leaders discussed key regional issues, including freedom of navigation and freedom of coercion in the South and East China Sea, the North Korea nuclear issue and the coup and violent repression in Myanmar (QUAD China) ). Prior to the meeting with China’s top officials, Sullivan said, “Despite the difficult times in the meeting, expectations have been raised about a better future”. Sullivan and US Foreign Minister Antony Blinken will meet their Chinese counterpart Yang Jiechi and Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Anchorage, Alaska, on 18–19 March.

Sullivan said, ‘Our effort is to clearly tell the Chinese government how the US wants to move forward on a strategic level, what are our fundamental interests and values and what are our concerns about their activities (QUAD Summit 2021). Clearly we listened to our Quad colleagues, their pressure on Australia, their pressure near the Senkaku peninsula, their aggression on India’s borders.
Pledged strong cooperation
The quad summit has been held in eastern Ladakh since May last year amid ongoing military deadlock along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) between India and China. Quad leaders have pledged to strengthen cooperation on ‘challenges of our time’ in a joint statement (QUAD and India). Sullivan said that at the quad summit on Friday, much attention was focused on the current global crisis, which included issues like climate change and COVID-19. The four leaders have expressed joint commitment regarding COVID-19.
