“We’ll face the enemy’s bullets, Remain free, remain free … ”
This is not just lines, but an open letter of freedom. Which was written by the fearless revolutionary Chandrashekhar Azad for the country. It is said that when he used to read these lines from the stage, there was a new enthusiasm in the youth. Not only did he hum these lines, but he also made it real. Chandrashekhar Azad was not just a name, but he was a fire, whose heat still boils in the blood of the youth due to its heat.
Played patriotism by breaking the mother’s dreams
He declared himself independent many years before the country became independent. That child was freed not only from the slavery of the British, but also from religion and caste. That is why he changed his name to Chandrashekhar ‘Azad’ instead of Chandrashekhar Tiwari. Azad, who was now the son of Mother India.
His mother always thought that his son would become a Sanskrit scholar. With this thought, the mother gave her Chandu (name of Azad’s childhood) Banaras was sent to study. But Chandu’s fate had already been written. Chandu Like millions of people of the country, Mahatma Gandhi’s non-cooperation movement was affected. Soon he left the books by hand and held the tricolor. Chandu He had vowed to break the dream of one mother and give freedom to the other mother.
Chandu became independent even before independence
During the non-cooperation movement, large-scale arrests took place. One of these arrests also took place of 14-year-old Chandrashekhar Tiwari alias Chandu. He was presented before Jab. The judge asked “What’s the name?” Chandu said while stretching Sina ‘Azad.’ The judge asked what is the father’s name? Azad then replied boldly to ‘Freedom.’ The judge asked the last question, tell me your address. Chandu proudly said ‘Jail.’
Can you imagine the atmosphere when the British soldiers with guns in their hands are standing in front of a blond judge who can punish this child for any disobedience. In such an environment, this 14-year-old boy responds without being afraid, without hesitation, widening the scene with pride. The slave declares himself free from the country. It was not that no attempt was made to break this 14-year-old child. The judge heard the punishment of 15 whips, thought that this little boy would start to feel pain after eating a couple of whips, he would cry and apologize. But he was free.
Where was he allowed to bow to someone now, even if it happens. Far from apologizing, that independent boy started raising the slogan ‘Vande Mataram’ after every whip.
Master of disguise Were Chandrashekhar Azad’
Mahatma Gandhi’s non-cooperation movement freed 14-year-old Chandu and this freedom of independence made him a fearless revolutionary. Azad joined the revolutionary party ‘Hindustan Republican Association’ at the age of 17. With aging, the burning spark inside Azad turned into a burning fire. It is said that these days Azad learned archery and shooting from the tribals of Jhabua region of Madhya Pradesh. The days continued to grow free. That is why Azad inspired the youth of that time, hardly any other revolutionary has done so.
Apart from shooting, stealth was another art in which Azad had no harm. Azad was an expert in disguise. It is said that he had made a cave in a temple near Jhansi. This cave was 8 feet deep and 4 feet wide. As a monk, he used to live in this cave. It is said that once the British got information about their intelligence. The British surrounded them but were free. Passed in front of the British, but the British soldiers could not recognize them. Azad was in disguise of a woman at that time.
An example of his disguise is such that you will be stunned upon hearing this. In those days, Azad had become the gritty eye of the British, who used to give teas continuously but did not get caught. For this reason, Azad spent 10 years of his life in absconding, in which most of his time was spent in Jhansi and adjoining districts. In such a situation, it became very important for the British government to catch them.
An English officer was selected for this work. He was searching for independent everywhere. Azad had been a driver of the same officer for 8 months and he did not even know about it. Not only this, but when that officer went to search for Azad, Azad would have been driving his car.
‘Azad’ all photos Were destroyed
Azad never came to the hands of the police. One big reason for this was that the police did not know exactly how they actually look independent. As informants used to tell the police. The same image was set free in the eyes of the police. The big reason for this was that Azad had destroyed all his pictures, except one. She also came in front of people after her martyrdom.
You must have seen the same picture of Chandrashekhar Azad everywhere and this is the picture, in which Azad Dhoti is seen giving a mustache to the wrapped mustache. Actually this picture was taken by a friend of his. Azad did not want to get this picture taken, but he took it after repeated calls from a friend.
After some time Azad got the idea that if he wanted to escape from the police, he would not have to let the police know how he looked. For this, they had to destroy all their pictures. For this work, he chose one of his friends Vishwanath Vaishampayan. He asked Vishwanath to destroy all his photographs. Vishwanath destroyed all other pictures, but the picture that was taken by a friend of Azad was left. When Vishwanath went to that friend and requested to destroy the photo, that friend refused saying that it is necessary to have a picture of Azad. After independence, people should know that the person who fought for freedom, what he really looked like. He destroyed the copy of Azad’s picture but kept it negative. It was only after Azad’s martyrdom that his picture came to the world.
Live freely, went free
Azad never got caught in the chains of slavery. He should remain free till his last breath. Chandrasekhar Azad played an important role in the famous Kakori scandal. In fact, the revolutionaries believed that the treasure that the British had with India belonged to India and if it was spent to restore it and liberate India, then there is no harm in it. With this thinking, on August 9, 1925, revolutionaries stopped the Saharanpur-Lucknow passenger train at a place called Kakori near Lucknow. There was a treasure of the British in it, which was looted. After this incident, when the British rule became very active, Azad changed the name of his organization to ‘Hindustan Socialist Republican Association and Army’.
It is said that Azad used to take a bullet with him. He always said that the shot of the British would not cause his death. It happened exactly the same. On 27 February 1931, someone informed the police that Azad and Sukhdev were present in Alfred Park, Allahabad. On receiving this news, Deputy SP Vishveshwar Singh and English officer Not Bawar reached Alfred Park and surrounded Azad and Sukhdev. Bullets started firing on both sides. One of Azad’s bullet hit Vishweshwar Singh’s jaw. Azad was firing bullets so fast that the English officer Knot did not get a chance to fill the bullets in his pistol. When he had to fill the bullet, he would have opened fire. Taking iron from the British themselves, they safely removed Sukhdev from there. The sad thing here was that the Azad were surrounded from all sides and the soldiers were being marked by bullets. Meanwhile, his bullets were over. The last bullet was left. He remembered his vow that he would never die from the bullet of the British. He fired the last shot in a pistol and fired at himself. With this, Chandrasekhar Azad proved his statement to be true.
Mother kept waiting for many years
It is very unfortunate that the mother of an immortal martyr had to live a tight life in old age. A few years after Azad’s martyrdom, his father Sitaram Tiwari also passed away from this world, Azad’s brother had already left this world. Now his mother was left with no support for old age. Despite seeing so many bad days, he never spread his hand in front of anyone. She lived by eating boiled dal, kodo and kandamool. It is said that he had only two dreams, one to see Azad again and the other to do pilgrimage. Both these dreams were also fulfilled.
Azad’s partner Sadashiv Rao Malkapurkar fulfilled both these dreams of Azad’s mother Jagrani Devi. Azad’s mother’s eyes were weeping while waiting for her son. In this condition she does not live long, but thank God that she got Sadashiva’s support on those days. When Sadashiv came out of jail, he came to know about the situation of Azad’s mother. He brought them with him to Jhansi. Served him like his mother. Azad could not come back, but Sadashiv definitely made up the lack of Azad. He also made a pilgrimage to Jagarani Devi and after her death, she also performed her last rites with the help of a son-in-law.
When Azad was alive, the British could not catch him, but after the martyrdom many rumors were definitely blown.
On the basis of these, many people today believe that Azad’s martyrdom was not from his own shot, but from the British. Apart from this, there are other rumors and confusions, which are related to Azad. As many believe that Azad was born not on 23 July 1906, but on 7 January 1906. Along with this it is also claimed that he was born not in Bhabra in Madhya Pradesh, but in Unnav of Uttar Pradesh. Yes, it is a matter of fact that the ancestral village of Shaheed Azad was Unnao, but there is no evidence of the claim being made on his birth.

An important chapter in the saga of independence
Although we can never be free from the debt of Chandrashekhar Azad’s sacrifice, but what is done in his honor is less. Chandrashekhar Azad was martyred in Alfred Park. The park was renamed Chandrashekhar Azad Park. Along with this, his village was also named after him. A memorial to his name has been erected at the place where he was born.
It is not just a memorial but a temple, which has been named the ‘Amar Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad Smriti Mandir’. Here people bow down the head in front of the statue of Azad with great reverence and bow to him for his sacrifice. It was a free thought that gave a 14-year-old child the courage to stand in front of a full-fledged government, which led to the aspiration of freedom in the veins of a young man, which made a common man such a revolutionary Who did not hesitate to sacrifice his life for the freedom of India.
The independent India of Azad’s dream was based on the idea of the same freedom, where every citizen of the country is not only free to say but also free from heart and mind. We salute this man of freedom, this great son of India, this revolutionary who is excited in youth, this great sacrifice, on his birth anniversary.
