After the draft of the National Rail Plan came out, the Railway Ministry has issued an explanation today to clear the doubts about the waitlisted ticket. Railways has tweeted that in some media reports it is being told that there will be no waiting list from 2024 or only confirmed tickets will be issued from 2024. Regarding this, the railways wrote in its explanation that there is no such plan of the railways. Instead, according to the demand, Railways is working on increasing its capacity so that more people can get confirmed seats.
The railway released the draft of the National Rail Plan a day earlier. In it, it was mentioned in several media reports about the waitlisted ticket that now the railway will end the waiting list system and only confirmed seats will be allotted.
Waiting tickets on bookings exceeding available seats
Railways provide waiting tickets in reserved bogies. Railways make this provision at a time when more than the number of seats in the train bogie, passengers apply for tickets. Railways book tickets for reserved bogies in three ways. If a passenger books a ticket for a reserved bogie other than the general bogie, he gets either a confirmed seat or a RAC seat and either a waiting ticket. The chances of getting a waiting ticket confirmed are higher when the passenger who has a confirmed seat cancels the ticket by canceling the decision to travel. In such a situation, their seat becomes vacant and in their place the person with waiting ticket gets the seat.
