A “significant burst” of heavy snow may dump a number of inches of snow on components of the area this weekend, with as much as a foot attainable in northern spots.
National Weather Service meteorologists are forecasting substantial snowfall north of the Mass Pike and west of Interstate 495 from late Friday evening into Saturday.
The best potential for widespread accumulations of greater than 6 inches of snow is north of the Route 2 hall and at increased elevations above 600 ft. Up to 12 inches of snow is feasible in northern central Massachusetts close to the New Hampshire and Vermont borders.
