The Income Tax Department has made available a dedicated portal https://www.incometaxindiaefiling.gov. in/home for taxpayers to file their tax return and other tax-related work online. On this portal, taxpayers can register themselves and create income tax e-filing accounts and then can access various services by logging in. But currently, as technology is advancing, cybercrime is also increasing. Warning of people to do online activities, especially activities related to rupee money, is issued on a day to come.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes has also advised taxpayers to operate income tax e-filing account carefully so that it cannot be misused. But if a taxpayer’s income tax e-filing account is misused, he can file a complaint about it.
Where will the report
According to the guidelines on the Income Tax e-filing portal, if you believe that your e-filing account has been compromised or someone else has logged in, then you can be a victim of cybercrime. It should be reported as soon as possible. As a first step, report the incident to the concerned police or cyber cell officials.
The victim/complainant can lodge a criminal complaint / FIR by visiting the online initiative of Government of India https://cybercrime.gov.in/. The Income Tax Department will share with them any information related to the alleged cybercrime if summoned by the appropriate Law Enforcement Officers under their statutory powers of investigation.

On the income tax e-filing website, people have also been advised to take a general caution. That is, the taxpayer should not share the login password or other sensitive information of the income tax e-filing account with anyone.
