A former Team GB rower died after the horse she was using grew to become spooked and charged uncontrolled at an estimated 35mph, an inquest has heard.
Tanya Brady, who competed for Britain within the World Rowing Championships in 2005, was thrown from the horse and died on the scene of the accident in Liss, Hampshire, in April final 12 months.
An inquest in Winchester heard the 49-year-old military captain was using her horse when a employee close by noticed the animal performing “erratically”.
The witness informed the listening to: “The female rider took to the grass with her horse and the horse gathered speed.
“I estimate it received to 35mph throughout the inexperienced with the feminine rider screaming as she tried to get management of the horse.
“She was ejected from the horse, I heard a crack as she fell.”
Brady was present in a 10ft-deep ditch, and whereas paramedics and police tried to avoid wasting her, she was pronounced useless on the scene.
The reason for demise was discovered to be a number of traumatic chest accidents.
A verdict of unintentional demise was recorded by Hampshire coroner Christopher Wilkinson on Monday.
He stated: “We cannot identify what triggered this horse as it entered on to the grass.
“It did get spooked and headed off at tempo with Tanya nonetheless using the horse earlier than, I think, it got here to an abrupt halt on the mound earlier than the ditch and he or she was ejected from the horse and fell the 10ft into the ditch.”
Brady, from Liphook, Hampshire, served with the Royal Logistics Corp and became a full-time athlete and member of Team GB.
She married in 2004 and left the army the following year.
Mr Wilkinson added: “Tanya was an achieved Army officer, she was an achieved sportswoman reaching an extremely excessive stage, she represented her nation, the British Army, and he or she was a devoted mom and spouse.
“She led a life through passion and drive.”
