A “savage” burglar who beat, gagged and “hog-tied” an 86-year-old girl earlier than leaving her to die has been jailed for 34 years.
Vasile Culea was convicted of murdering Freda Walker in her Derbyshire dwelling after he broke in trying to find £30,000 in money he’d heard was in the home.

“The experience must have been overwhelmingly traumatic for Freda Walker and each of the injuries you inflicted on her would have caused her pain.
“All in all, I’m positive Freda would have suffered each psychological and bodily struggling earlier than she died.”
Mr Walker died some months after the incident for causes unconnected with the assault.
