Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said that the amendment in the rules will provide special benefits to the differently-abled.
The government issued a notification for amendment in Form 20 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules-1989 on October 22, amending the rules, which will ensure the registration of ownership details at the time of registration of vehicles.
The Motor Vehicles Rules have been amended to add ownership details clearly to the vehicle registration document. The government said on Friday that this amendment has been notified. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said that this amendment would particularly benefit the differently-abled.
It was brought to the notice of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways that ownership details are not properly recorded in the various forms required for registration of motor vehicles under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. The ministry said in a statement that it has issued a notification on 22 October 2020 for amendment in Form 20 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules-1989. This will ensure ownership details at the time of registration of vehicles.
Ownership details of vehicles will be registered in different categories
In the revised form, the ownership details will be recorded in various categories. These include the Autonomous Body, Central Government, Charitable Trust, Driving Training School, PwD, Educational Institute, Local Authority, Multiple Owners, Police Department, etc.
Disabled people will get the benefits of government schemes
GST and other exemptions are given to PwDs under various schemes of the government in the purchase, ownership and operation of motor vehicles. The details of PwD are not recorded from the details that are currently registered under the Central Motor Vehicles Rules. Due to this, the disabled are not able to get the benefits of government schemes. After the amendment, now such ownership details will be properly registered and PwD will be able to take benefits of various schemes.
